Who We Are

The International Society for ECT and Neurostimulation (ISEN) is a global organization dedicated to advancing the safe, ethical, and effective use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and other neurostimulation treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders. Established in 1976, ISEN has grown into a leading voice in promoting education, training, research, and advocacy in this critical area of mental health care.

ISEN’s mission is to strengthen the practice of ECT and related neurostimulation therapies by fostering international collaboration, delivering cutting-edge education, and advocating for the highest standards of patient care. Its vision is to improve the lives of individuals with severe neuropsychiatric conditions by ensuring access to high-quality, evidence-based neurostimulation treatments.

Key Activities That Support This Mission Include:

  • The publication of The Journal of ECT (the official journal of ISEN)
  • Hosting the ISEN Annual Meeting and Scientific Program
  • Offering world-renowned certification courses in ECT, recognized for excellence and leadership in the field
  • Organizing task forces, webinars, and panels on critical issues related to ECT and neurostimulation therapies
  • Engaging in international partnerships and advocacy efforts to ensure the accessibility of neurostimulation treatments worldwide

Through these initiatives, ISEN continues to drive progress in the field, ensuring that patients have access to the most advanced and effective treatment options available.
